Message from Allan Wells, Seniors Chairman

Apart from wishing you all seasonal greetings, I thought a recap on the year would be of some interest to our members.

Unfortunately we sadly lost a Senior stalwart in Ken Cutting who will be greatly missed. Ken looked after the Bishops Chalice for many years and I’m sure you might recall Ken with his clipboard which became the famous nickname of “Captain Clipboard”
It is the committee’s intention to have a Ken Cutting trophy which will be played for in conjunction with the first Chalice round next October.

We must thank Mike Pulford for his sterling work organising all our matches and Jeff Deslandes for his secretarial duties and much more.

We played 39 matches, winning 20, losing 16 and 3 halves matches. 1 match was postponed due to bad weather and unable to rearrange.
We had 67 players represent the club and on average were selected 80% of the time.
This year we had several last minute call offs so it would be interesting to know if there are any reasons for this increase in drop outs.
It would also be helpful to have s list of last minute reserves that we might call upon at the very last minute, so please let Jeff know if you can be a late call up.

Another successful Invitation day which saw our seniors and club members enjoy bringing along friends from other clubs and show piecing  our fabulous course.

Our senior competitions winners for the year were:-

Seniors Champion Gross – Chris Veitch – Gross 80
Seniors Champion Nett – Paul Doughty – Nett 72
Veteran’s Trophy 65+ – John Mayhew – 41 pts
Veteran’s Trophy 60-64 – Steve Pearce – 41 pts
Sam Goddard Trophy – Ian Buxton & Tony Belenkin – 47 pts

We have nearly 100 senior golfers that have joined the Senior section but only 67 players that played in matches, perhaps those that are no longer interested in playing might let Jeff Deslandes know so he can remove you from the mailing lists and stop unwanted correspondence in your inbox,

Also for all those new members aged 55+ you can automatically enter any of the Senior events plus you can add your name to the Senior Section if you would like to be considered for Senior matches
Finally, thank you to all those unnamed people that have assisted during the year and on behalf of your committee wish you all a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year and May all your drives be straight and your putts drop.
Allan Wells
Seniors Chairman
