Paul Waring has been given the honour of being one of only two men selected to represent GB at golf in the Deaflympics in Turkey in July. It is an event sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee where 109 countries compete in 21 sports. The golf event format is 36 holes strokeplay with the top 32 going on to a matchplay competition.
Deaf Golf gets no funding whatsoever from public bodies such as Sport England or the Lottery Fund, so the team has to raise money to allow them to compete. A ‘Just Giving’ page has been set up by the Team Manager, Stuart Harrison; there is a target of £7500.
Members have previously been very generous in supporting Paul financially to assist him in competing in the World Deaf Golf Championship. Any support that you can give to assist Paul to play in the Deaflympics would be greatly appreciated.
