Mens and Mixed

The club runs monthly mens medal and stableford competitions which are normally held at the weekend.  There is also a monthly mid-week stableford held on Wednesdays.  We also enter teams into the Hambro, Tolly Cobbold Cup and the Stenson Shield county competitions.  We also play friendly matches with golf clubs ranging from Harwich, Great Yarmouth & Caster through to Saffron Walden.

There are also a number of mixed matches and competitions held throughout the year on an home and away basis.

We have a large friendly Ladies section of approximately 80 players of all abilities. I am sure you will enjoy the amiable atmosphere of the Club and will soon discover the challenges which our 2 courses can offer. The majority of ladies meet on Thursdays to play medal competitions, stableford competitions and fun activities but a few ladies meet on Saturdays and some ladies play social golf on Tuesdays. However, Thursday is our main day and after playing we meet for lunch/snacks in the Clubhouse and enjoy some friendly conversation.

In order to enter our trophy, stableford or medal competitions you will need to have an active handicap or submit three cards to obtain your handicap. We shall be pleased to help you with this should you require a playing partner or need help in completing your cards. When visiting anywhere for the first time it is always a good idea to spend a little time reading the notices in the Clubhouse and especially in the Ladies area, as this will help you become familiar with all our activities. In our Club diary you will be able to read about our social events, competitions and fixtures.  The Ladies play between 12 and 14 friendly fixtures per year as well as some vets’ matches and everyone is given the opportunity to play at home and away, whatever your ability.

We enter teams, at every level, in the Haskell, Weston, Stearn and Cranworth County knockout competitions and have won trophies in most events. We are proud of our County and National players but, equally, we aim to encourage ladies of all abilities and to make our golf an enjoyable and worthwhile activity. On the social scene, the ladies are involved in numerous Club activities.

We have a strong Seniors’ Section of Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, open to male members aged 55 and over.  This is a friendly group with many events taking place throughout the year.  Between March & October we play circa 40 inter-club friendly matches providing the opportunity to play many other courses across Suffolk & Essex.   Through the winter months (October through April) we hold our Bishop’s Chalice senior stableford competition on the second Monday of each month, which is a qualifying competition for handicap purposes.  We also have our own Senior Championship for 55+ held in July and Veterans Trophy for players aged 60+ & 65+ which takes place in September.

If your child wishes to try golf, then start off by visiting our Professional Golf Shop where our full time professional golfers will be able to tell you all about our Golf Academy.  All the details are listed on this website under General Club News.  The sessions are aimed at children between 7-11 and will cover all aspects of the great game of golf.  Whilst your child is having coaching you are welcome to stay and watch or retire to the Clubhouse where you can use the facilities including the bar and catering.

Progression from a season at the academy would normally mean taking up membership at our 9 hole Kingsfleet course which is included in the price of the coaching sessions.  The Kingsfleet course has greens laid to US PGA standards and is a true test of golf.  It is considered to be one of the best 9 hole courses in Suffolk.  Once a junior member has progressed to a good standard they will be welcome on to the 18 hole Martello course where there are plenty of competitions and matches laid on in the school holidays for our Junior section.  Progress will be carefully monitored by our Junior Committee and our Professionals and we will liaise with you, the parents, to inform you how things are going and how we will help your son or daughter go forward and get the most out of their time here at the Club.

Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club are rightly proud of our former Junior members.  Many have gone on to represent the County and also our National teams at International and World level.  Many have made golf their profession.  Our junior organiser is Peter White who can be reached on 01394 275557 to answer any questions you may have or you can contact our office on 01394 286834.
