A very proud father and son, Paul and Steve Waring. Fantastic achievement Paul, many congratulations on your silver medal. The whole club is extremely proud of you.
Please see below a message from Paul Waring at the beginning of his bid to do well at this years Deaflympics in Turkey:
Good morning all
Today is the first day of the Strokeplay, we are currently on the bus to the course at 6am! It’s been quite an experience so far, the athletes village is good to mix with and meet other people, but standing in a queue for 1.5 hours for food, which was cold and not that good is not so great. It seems the standard breakfast is cold, greased chucked nuggets and cold chips! So most of the time we are eating at the golf club where the food is good and we can get a nice fresh omlette👍🏻
On Wednesday the UK Ambassador Richard Moore came to visit us, he watched a couple of events and then spent about 1 hour on the range with us and we then had lunch together with some of the other GB officials, his wife is partially sighted and has a guide dog who even had its own accreditation like all athletes/visitors.
The course itself is in good condition, the greens are smooth, although a little slow, it can get very windy here (25mph on Wednesday ) so they can’t have them too quick. The fairways are fairly narrow and the rough extremely thick, probably 8 or 9 out of 10 hit in the rough will be a lost ball so fairways are a must! Teeing off at 8:12 this morning will send further updates through the week.
Ps the golf club bar is alcohol free which did not please dad!
